Licensed: Virginia Mold Inspector

The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations Board for Asbestos, Lead, Mold, and Home Inspectors issues licenses for mold inspectors.

In Virginia only those who are licensed can do a Mold Inspection. According to the license law a mold inspection is:

• An inspection, investigation or survey of a dwelling or other structure to determine the presence of mold;
• The development of a mold management plan or mold remediation protocol; or
• The collection or analysis of a mold sample.

To obtain a license, there are very specific Inspector course requirements and a mold inspector refresher course taken every year thereafter. Also required is proof of educational background and years of competency by submitting a number of previously completed mold inspections.
